House of Cards

The fourth season of the US TV series House of Cards is set in present-day, which creates an illusion of realism. When you see a poster of the candidate Francis Underwood in the Washington metro stations you imagine that he is competing with Clinton, Sanders or Trump.

The story is so caricatural and unrealistic in the American context. Actually, the US TV series is adapted from a British TV series. It is initially a British novel from Baron Michael Dobbs, a Conservative politician who served Margareth Thatcher and John Major. It is an autobiography, since Michael Dobbs’ nickname was “Westminster’s baby-faced hit man” (by The Guardian).

Overall, I would say that House of Cards is a commercial product made up by Netflix and Kevin Spacey (a great actor and producer).

As a geek of politics, I have watched the first three seasons of House of Cards, but honestly I prefer The West Wing and its Presidents Bartlet and Santos.
